Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Table
From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of characters who will separate from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
First, the party understands precisely where to head next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—used the foes for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
Casimir then cleared his debts and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants revenge.
- Kattigan is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- However, their status as important members in the influential clan could help the team enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The healer defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to travel to the northern region in quest for Casimir.
What’s Next?
From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight players to round up the Explorers and Schemers tables.
Audiences can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
